Thigh Society Size & Fit Guide 2026: Hip Size, Inseam and Sheerness Explained

You hold up a pair of slip shorts and wonder: will these roll up by lunchtime? Will they show under this skirt? Will the waistband dig in after a big dinner? With Thigh Society, those questions come down to three choices — size, length and fabric — and getting them right matters, because the brand doesn't accept returns on its shorts.
This guide uses Thigh Society's own size chart, sizing tips, product specs and FAQ from October 2026 to help you choose with confidence.
Step 1: Measure Your Hips
Thigh Society says its products "run true to hip size" and tells you to measure at the largest part. If you don't know your hip measurement, the brand says to go with your usual pant size. Here's the chart:
| Thigh Society size | US/CA size | Hips (in) | Hips (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS/S | 2–4 | 34–37 | 86–94 |
| S/M | 6–8 | 38–41 | 97–104 |
| M/L | 10–12 | 42–45 | 107–114 |
| L/XL | 14–16 | 46–49 | 117–124 |
| XL/2XL | 18–20 | 50–53 | 127–135 |
| 3XL/4XL | 22–26 | 54–58.5 | 137–149 |
| 5XL/6XL | 28–34 | 59–65.5 | 150–166 |
Step 2: Between Sizes? Follow the Brand's Rule
- Shorts: size down — unless you have fuller thighs, in which case size up.
- WhispAir Cooling underwear: size up.
- Expecting: the brand suggests your regular size for the first trimester, then sizing up.
Also keep in mind that The Original and The Cargo are described as "a little more snug than our other styles," with a bike-short feel. If you're on the edge and prefer a relaxed fit, that's where sizing up makes the most sense.

Step 3: Choose Your Inseam
Length decides what the short works under. Thigh Society's images show the lengths on models in sizes M/L and L/XL.
| Inseam | Available in | Price (black) | Good under |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5" | Cooling, Staple, Cotton, Original, Cargo | $39–$40 | Mini skirts and shorter dresses |
| 7" | All five styles | $39–$40 | Most knee-length dresses and skirts |
| 9" | All five styles | $40 | Midi lengths and longer strides |
| 12" | The Cooling | $42 | Longer skirts and wide-leg pants |
| 17" | The Cooling | $47 | Maxi dresses and sheer pants |
| 21" | The Cooling | $49 | Full coverage under long hemlines |
Note that some lengths start at S/M rather than XS/S — the 9", 12", 17" and 21" Cooling styles we checked began at S/M — so confirm your size is offered before you pick a length.

Step 4: Pick Your Sheerness
Thigh Society's FAQ lays it out plainly:
- The Cooling — sheer. The lightest and sheerest, "like sheer pantyhose (but without the ick and much stronger)." Best worn under clothes.
- The Staple — semi-sheer. The Cooling's less sheer counterpart, with a sheerness like tights.
- The Cotton — semi-sheer. Similar to The Staple, in a Pima cotton and modal blend; the brand calls it a sleep-in essential.
- The Original and The Cargo — opaque. Not see-through, so there's no show-through risk when you bend down. They can be worn on their own for errands and workouts.
Common Fit Questions
Will the inner seam rub?
Thigh Society says it placed the inner-thigh seams away from where legs meet, and the stitching sits flat.
Will they compress me like shapewear?
No. The brand says its shorts don't compress you or suck you in; they offer light smoothing with no visible panty line.
Will the waistband dig in?
The waistband is made from the same fabric as the shorts, double-folded and sewn in, so it stretches with your curves.
Can men wear them?
The brand says anyone can wear them, but notes the shorts don't have the extra front fabric of men's underwear; it suggests men try sizing up.
What about static or noise?
In very dry conditions static is possible — the brand suggests rubbing a dryer sheet over the shorts. Thigh brushing can make some sound, but it says the microfiber doesn't make an excessive amount of noise.
Match the Short to the Outfit
| You're wearing… | Try | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A fitted sundress in July | The Cooling 7" | Lightest fabric, seamless knit, no visible lines |
| A short skirt you'll sit and bend in | The Original 5" | Opaque, flash-proof coverage |
| A dress with no pockets | The Cargo 7" | Side pocket for your phone |
| White or sheer trousers | The Cooling 17" or 21" | Long, sheer coverage under the whole leg |
| Pajamas or a lazy Sunday | The Cotton 9" | Pima cotton and modal, made for lounging |
| Tights in fall and winter | The Staple 7" | The brand suggests wearing shorts over tights, a tip it says helps prevent holes |
What Happens If the Size Is Wrong?
Because the shorts are considered undergarments, Thigh Society doesn't accept returns. Instead it offers a fit promise on one pair per customer: contact the team within 30 days of delivery and it will send a free replacement to get the fit right. That makes your first order the one to measure carefully for — after that, you'll know your size.
A Smart First Order
- Measure your hips and match them to the chart.
- Choose two lengths — for example a 7" for everyday and a 9" or 12" for longer hemlines.
- Choose one sheer and one opaque style to learn what you like.
- Add a fourth pair for the Buy 3, Get the 4th Free bundle, which also clears the $75 free-shipping minimum.
- Wash cold and tumble dry low to keep them in shape.
The Bottom Line
Fit is everything with slip shorts. Go by hip size, size down between sizes unless your thighs are fuller, choose the length that matches your hemlines and the sheerness that matches your outfits. Then check our Thigh Society deals page before you order.
