Seatylock Care Guide 2026: Keys, Mounting, Weather and the Free 3-Year Warranty

Seatylock Care Guide 2026: Keys, Mounting, Weather and the Free 3-Year Warranty

The lock was a good one. The problem was everything around it: the frame mount bolted on crooked so the case never quite clicked shut, the spare keys tossed in a junk drawer, the little red card with the key code long since recycled. Six months later a key snaps, and the only way to get a new one is a number nobody wrote down.

Most of what keeps a Seatylock lock useful for years happens off the bike rack. We went through Seatylock's FAQ, warranty page, key registration rules and accessory listings in October 2026 and turned the brand's own instructions into a simple care and setup routine for folding locks, U-locks and chains.

Five habits that protect your lock (and your warranty)

  • 🔑 Register your key code within 3 months to stretch the warranty from 12 months to 3 years
  • 🗂️ Keep the red Key Code Card and the confirmation letter together
  • 🔧 Mount the case opening-up so the lock clicks fully into place
  • 🚲 Lock frame and rear wheel to a fixed object, with the lock off the ground
  • 🧩 Store spare parts and sockets where you can find them

Day One: Keys, Codes and Registration

Three Seatylock keys with the red key code card
Every Foldylock, Mason and Viking lock comes with three keys and a red Key Code Card.

According to Seatylock's FAQ, Foldylock, Mason and Viking locks all ship with three keys and a Duplication Key Code Card. The code is printed on the back of that red card, and it's the only way the company can cut new keys for you. Do these three things before your first ride:

  1. Register the code on the Key Registration Form within 3 months of purchase. That extends the standard 12-month warranty to 3 years from the purchase date, for free.
  2. Keep the confirmation. Seatylock sends a Key Registration Confirmation Letter and suggests storing it with the code card, since both may be needed to order duplicate keys.
  3. Separate the keys. Lost keys aren't covered by the warranty, so keep one spare somewhere other than your key ring.

If you lose a key

Your situationWhat Seatylock offers
You registered, or still have the code3 Duplicated Keys for $25, cut to your code; the listing says it can take about 5–6 weeks

No code, not registered, no keysThe listing says Seatylock won't be able to duplicate keys

Mounting a Foldylock the Right Way

Seatylock says every Foldylock includes a dedicated frame mount and an Installation Guide. The case attaches with your bike's bottle-cage screws, or with the two mounting straps in the box if the frame has no bottle-cage mounts. The FAQ's key instruction: install the case "with the opening facing upward" and make sure the lock "clicks fully into place."

A case that's been cracked or lost can be replaced on its own. Seatylock lists case kits for the Mini, Compact, Classic, Forever and Elite at $15, and a Plastic Bands Mounting Kit for $10 that fits every folding lock it sells (the kit doesn't include a case).

Carrying a Mason U-Lock

Mason U-locks don't come with a bracket. Seatylock explains that many riders carry their lock another way, so the multi-adaptor U-Lock Mounting Bracket is sold separately for $15. The listing says it fits any of Seatylock's U-locks, works with a wide range of frame widths and allows many mounting positions. The FAQ adds that the lock body has coatings meant to keep it from scratching the frame.

Chains: Let the Sleeve Do Its Job

The Viking chain's neoprene sleeve is there to protect the frame and cut down on rattling.

On Viking chains, Seatylock says the neoprene sleeve protects the frame from scratches and impact, reduces moisture exposure and minimizes rattling. The locks also use an Auto-Shutter that automatically covers the cylinder against dust, water and dirt, which the brand says helps keep operation smooth and extends the lock's lifespan. The Viking listings also describe rust-resistant metal components.

How Seatylock Says to Lock Up

The FAQ gives three rules for using a Mason U-lock, and they're good habits with any lock:

  • Lock the frame and rear wheel to a fixed object.
  • Leave as little space as possible inside the U to make leverage attacks harder.
  • Keep the lock off the ground, where it's harder to cut.

Seatylock also says many riders combine a U-lock with a second lock. Its Cable Loops ($15 for 120 cm, $20 for 220 cm) are described as an extra layer of protection for the bike and its components, which is handy for a front wheel.

Rain, Grit and Weather

The brand describes all Foldylock models as weatherproof and rust resistant, saying every component is tested in environmental chambers. Mason locks are described as built for all-weather use with protective coatings, and the Foldylock Classic's listing images show an automatic keyhole shutter against dust and water. Seatylock doesn't publish a lubrication schedule, so if a cylinder ever feels stiff, contact the company before adding anything to it. Repairs or modifications by third parties are excluded from the warranty.

Protect the Parts Thieves Unbolt

A lock around the frame doesn't help a quick-release wheel or seatpost. Seatylock's X Lock system replaces those fittings with coded hardware:

  • Axle Nuts ($25): two coded nuts with a socket for solid-axle wheels, in 3/8 + 3/8 or M9 + M10 kits.
  • Axle Bolts ($35): replacements for quick-release axles; this one was out of stock when we checked.
  • Seatpost Clamp ($30): for 28.6, 30, 31.8 and 35 mm tubes, with installation the listing puts at under 5 minutes.
  • X Lock Coded Socket ($15): a replacement if you lose the socket. You'll need the 2-digit code shown on your nut, so note it down when you install.

Seatylock Care FAQ

How do I get the 3-year warranty?

Submit the Key Registration Form within 3 months of purchase. The warranty then runs 3 years from the purchase date.

Where is my key code?

On the back of the red Key Code Card attached to your key set.

Can my new lock use the same key as my old one?

No. Seatylock says it can't match a new lock to an existing key; only locks bought together in its "2 units key alike" packs share a key.

My bike has no bottle-cage mounts. Can I still carry a Foldylock?

Yes. Every Foldylock includes two mounting straps for frames without bottle-cage screws.

The Bottom Line

A Seatylock lock needs very little ongoing care, but the first day matters: register the key code, keep the red card safe, and mount the case opening-up until it clicks. After that, lock the frame and rear wheel off the ground, let the shutters and sleeves handle the weather, and replace small parts with Seatylock's own instead of improvising.
